NOT SURE WHERE YOU BELONG?
NEW TO RACING? YOU’RE WELCOME HERE.
You don't need to be fast. You don't need a fancy bike. And you definitely don't need to know what you're doing yet.
You just need a good working bike, base fitness, the willingness to get on the line and work.
Pick the category that fits, ask questions when you have them, and come race.
From first-timers to lifelong
racers, there’s a place for
you on the start line.
RACING FOR EVERYONE

QUESTIONS?
RACE SMART.
A FEW THINGS TO KNOW.
BE COOL.
RACE FAIR.
Ride hard, respect the course, listen to race officials, and don't be the reason we need to write a new rule.
HELMETS.
ALWAYS.
If you're on the bike, the helmet is on your head. Pretty simple
RACE YOUR
CATEGORY.
Choose the category that fits your age and ability. Not sure where you belong? Ask us before you register.
KNOW THE
COURSE.
Course markings, schedules, start procedures, and event-specific information will be provided for each race. It's your job to know them.
RESPECT
THE TRAILS.
We race because we're fortunate enough to have places to race. Respect the land, the venue, volunteers, other riders, and the people who make access possible.
QUESTIONS? GOOD.
WE'VE HEARD A FEW.
-
It depends on the event, your age, and experience. If you're genuinely unsure, ask us. We'll help you figure it out.
-
Check the event listing as each race has different rules for walk-on registrations. Short story is we want smooth operations on race day and having you pre-registered makes things flow better.
-
We find venues that we can run wet or dry; however, will NOT run if conditions create an unsafe environment for our racers or staff.
When weather is a factor, we post regular updates on the registration site and send direct communications to pre-registered racers.
If a race is re-scheduled, you will be automatically moved to the new date. If you cannot make the new date, you will be offered the choice of a refund or credit to any future event (no expiration).
-
RVA Racing is the only race promoter who offers a “no-risk registration policy” to all our pre-registered racers.
Why? We want you to register early so we can do our part to run an amazing event.
So, whether it’s last-minute changes or family stuff that comes up - we’ve got your back!
Here’s how it works:
RVA Racing will offer you the choice of either a full refund or credit of your registration fees in cases where:
YOU cannot make the race,
WE cancel the race, or
WE postpone or reschedule the race and the new date does not work for you.
Just email us NO LATER THAN TWO-DAYS BEFORE the event at info@rvaracing.com and let us know.
If YOU notify us LESS THAN TWO-DAYS BEFORE the event, you will receive a credit.
YOU are not eligible if you notify us on or after race day.
In ALL cases, credits are good for any RVA Racing Events race or merchandise in the current year and for the next 2 years (or as long as BikeReg allows).
-
Event-specific information is posted with the race details on the registration site. We also send direct communication to registered riders before race day and after registration closes.
-
YES! But we want the course clear 30-minutes before the race starts.
Also, there will be no pre-riding or warming up on the course when a race is active.
Racers are subject to disqualification from their race with no refund if found on-course outside their category race times. This is a safety issue, and we cannot make exceptions.
PLEASE NOTE: Some of our races are run on private property (e.g., Panorama Farms, Westview). Pre-riding is only allowed with advance notice and under a waiver. Reach out to us if you need help.
-
If you have to quit a race for any reason, please let the scoring crew know so we don’t go searching the course for you.
If you have a legitimate DNF due to injury or mechanical, see the race director – at their discretion, you may qualify for a free entry to your next race.

RVA Racing tries to follow National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) categories and format as much as possible; however, field sizes typically dictate where/when we differ from NICA and VAHS. For all U23 racers:
Junior categories are structured to allow racers to compete based on age and ability.
Age Requirements: There is no minimum age requirement. All junior racers must be capable of safely competing on courses shared with adult racers.
Equipment Requirements: All junior racers must use adult-sized bicycles (27.5" or 29" wheels).
Race Distance: Junior racers must be capable of completing the full lap count assigned to their category, except in the case of mechanical or technical issues.
Category Alignment:
Expert (U19) is Equivalent to Adult EXPERT.
Sport (U19) is equivalent to Adult SPORT.
Beginner (U16) is equivalent to Adult BEGINNER.
NOVICE (U12) has no adult equivalent and will be determined based on venue.
Category Selection: Racers should select the category that best matches their ability, provided they comply with the age-based category structure.
Race officials reserve the right to reassign a racer to the appropriate category if a registration does not comply with age-category requirements.
