Hard enough to be memorable. Unravel is designed to challenge experienced racers while remaining achievable for prepared riders who aren't chasing the podium.

Absolutely! The 20- and 40-mile routes are great introductions to gravel racing. They’re challenging but 100% achievable - manage your pace, stay on top of hydration and nutrition, and come prepared to handle basic repairs like a flat tire. You’ll get plenty of encouragement along the way, with two aid stations and course sweeps there to support you if things don’t go as planned.

A gravel, mountain, or adaptive bike that you’re comfortable riding on rough terrain is a great choice. We recommend tires around 45mm wide for a good balance of speed, comfort, and reliability, but there’s no magic number - some riders go narrower, others wider. Bring a bike you trust and set it up for the terrain, not just the finish-line photo.

We recommend tubeless tires in the 40–45mm range or wider. Tubeless lets you run lower pressures for better traction, comfort, and protection against pinch flats. Around 30 PSI is a reasonable starting point, but the right pressure depends on your weight, tire size, bike, and riding style.

That’s up to you! We’ll recognize the top five finishers, but the Adventure is designed to be as much about fun as it is about going fast. Put your head down and race, or soak up the views, hang out at the aid stations, and make a day of it. Make it a race or make it a party - your call.

100% yes - it’s literally in the name! Never raced gravel? Perfect. Not sure you’re “fast enough”? Nobody cares. The Fun Ride is for first-timers, families, and anyone who wants to see what all this gravel fuss is about. You’ll work a little, probably get dirty, definitely earn some snacks, and have a ridiculously good time. Fast is optional. Fun is mandatory.

Home base is Bryce Resort in Basye, Virginia. That’s where the fun starts - and where your tired legs eventually bring you back.

Right at Bryce Resort! There will be plenty of parking, so no need to fight for a spot at sunrise. We’ll post the final parking details on the event page and include them in our pre-race emails to registered riders. Just show up, follow the signs, and save your competitive energy for the gravel.

Packet pickup and check-in will be at the Shenandoah Center at Bryce Resort. Check-in opens at 8:30 AM and closes 30 minutes before your wave starts - so don’t make your first race of the day a sprint to the check-in table.

There will be signs and plenty of people around to help guide you. We’ll include final details and reminders in our pre-race communications to registered riders.

Yep! We’ll have gear-drop bins for both aid stations. Put your goodies in a bag clearly marked with your bib number and get it into the appropriate bin no later than 30 minutes before your start time.

We’ll bring everything back to the start/finish area in time for podiums. You’re responsible for grabbing your gear before you leave - we won’t be holding onto forgotten items after the event. Anything left when cleanup is over will be donated or disposed of.

Label it. Drop it. Ride bikes. Remember to take it home.

Yes! We’re not heathens. We’ll have two aid stations on course with encouragement, good vibes, fuel from Monolith Nutrition, and support for minor bike repairs.

That said, come prepared to be self-sufficient. Carry the food, hydration, and tools you need to get yourself through the ride. Think of the aid stations as fun pit stops - and a helping hand if you find yourself deep in the hurt locker.

Yes! The course will be marked - but downloading the GPX file and being able to self-navigate is mandatory. We’re riding country backroads, and sometimes course markings get moved, disappear, or grow legs.

Don’t worry - you don’t need to be a navigation wizard. Just have the route loaded on your bike computer or phone and know how to follow it. We’ll also have course marshals and sweepers out there keeping an eye on things.

We want you adventuring - not accidentally starting a new life three counties over.

Can you? You have to! Downloading the GPX and having it loaded on your bike computer or phone is mandatory.

You’ll find the course links and route details right on the event page. Go get ’em now. Future-you, somewhere on a gravel backroad, will be glad you did.

First of all: you’re going to finish. Barring a mechanical or other unexpected issue, there’s plenty of support, encouragement, and stubborn optimism out there to get you across that line.

But if something does force you to call it a day, you MUST let a race official know before leaving the course. We account for every rider, and if you disappear without telling us, we have to treat you as missing and may send people looking for you. That part is no joke.

Please don’t make us launch a search party because you decided tacos sounded better. If a search has to be initiated because you left without notifying us, you may be responsible for the associated costs.

The good stuff! Your registration includes your race entry, parking at Bryce Resort, a fully marked and supported course, two aid stations, event swag, timing, and a whole lot of finish-line fun.

Most importantly, you’re getting a thoughtfully planned day on some seriously good gravel - with a crew that wants you to have an absolute blast from start to finish.

The sore legs are complimentary.

Unravel is rain or shine. Gravel gets dirty. So might you. A questionable forecast is not a cancellation, so don’t wait for 72° and partly cloudy before signing up.

We’ll ride unless conditions make it unsafe for riders, volunteers, or staff. If weather or other circumstances force us to cancel or reschedule, we’ll post updates here and communicate directly with registered riders. In that case, riders will receive a credit or refund for a portion of their entry fee.

Can’t make it for your own reasons? Registration fees are non-refundable, but we’ll allow bib transfers until 2-days before the event.

Pack a rain jacket. Bring sunscreen. Maybe bring both. It’s Virginia.

Absolutely! Bring your people. Friends, family, kids, professional cowbell operators - all are welcome.

There’ll be food, drinks, and festivities at Bryce Resort, plus plenty of fun out on course - including a route that rolls right through Pale Fire Brewing. So, while you’re out earning your gravel glory, your crew can make an adventure of their own.
